Slice of Life #21 Challenge Day 12/#SOS Magic: Emma's Greetings

For the month of March, each day I am writing and posting a slice of my life, hosted by Two Writing Teachers.

Slice of Life #21 Challenge Day 12:

Emma's Greetings

Meow. Meow. Meow.

It's the first sound I hear as I walk through the door. I have been gone all day at work. I imagine this is Emma's way of saying, "I missed you!"

Meow. Meow. Meow.

As I sat down my school bag, Emma rubs against my legs.

Meow. Meow. Meow.

I scan the mail, turn on the oven to roast some vegetables, and unpack my lunch. Emma conintues to rub against my legs.

Meow. Meow. MEOW!

Her cries crescendo.

Finally, I pick up Emma, rubbing her ears and scratching under her chin. She nuzzles her petite face against my neck. I am rewarded by Emma's purrs.

"I missed you, too, Emma."

  1. How wonderful! Isn't kitty love the best? And you've got a talker! She is a beautiful cat. And of course cats are THE BEST. (Also, I hustled to post my blog link on TWT when I saw there was not one but TWO cat posts that would be my neighbors! Alas, I did not write about cats today but I might have to go back and add a cat photo to my blog just to be in solidarity!)

    1. She is a talker. Victor is not. Emma is so vocal and usually I adore it!

I hope you write more about your cats!

    1. Kitty love is the best. It's especially nice when she welcomes me after a long day after work. It helps me feel less lonely for sure!

  3. Such furred creatures remind us of all that is good in this life... Emma is gorgeous. I had a little black cat with a stump-tail birth defect when I was in my teens; she liked to climb up my clothing to ride around on my shoulder. She had kittens under my bed! That purring - an engine of comfort. I am really a passionate dog person, being allergic to cats - but I do love them. Emma clearly loves you back.

  6. Some say cats are distant and aloof, but I challenge that thought and I will offer your post as evidence. My cats were very affectionate to me. I think it's how you treat them with love.

    1. I agree! These two were rescued from a neighbor who couldn't take care of them anymore. Maybe they know that they were deeply wanted here.
